RTM TV1 Channel is a Malaysian channel that broadcasts a wide variety of programs that are related to sports, movie, entertainment, drama, news and much more. It is one of the most viewed TV channels in the Malay Peninsula and it is owned by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). TV1 was the first TV channel to begin transmission on Malaysia and is broadcasted on VHF Channel 5 and UHF Channel 50 in Kuala Lumpur. The rest of Malaysia will only get the UHF signal as there is no VHF network in the suburbs.
TV1 initially was started as TV Malaysia in 1963. The channel was broadcasted in black and white until 1978 when color transmission of the channel was started. Singapore, the neighboring country to Malaysia has started a TV channel of its own about 10 months back and it acted as a sister channel to TV1 until Singapore left the federation in 1965. In February 1990, the channel was renames as TV1 and in 2006 it was reverted to RTM1. Finally, in 2009, the name of the channel was again changed to TV1 and has remained the same since. The channel became a 24 hour broadcasting station only in August 2012.
RTM TV1 Channel broadcasts programs that are from various categories. Sports and news are given priority while entertainment programs, drama and movies are broadcasted when there are no important sports events happening. TV2 is a sister channel of TV1 which also broadcasts entertainment, sports and news related programs. Almost all cable networks in the Malay Peninsula will carry the RTM TV1 Channel feed and the channel can be found in the beginning of the band. For the people of Malaysia, TV1 has always been the primary source of TV entertainment and it will continue to do so in the future.
